UltraFlex® / The size guide

Mattress size guide.
Room to get comfortable.

Compare Canadian mattress dimensions, then see what fits your bedroom.

A few inches can change how a room works. Start with the mattress measurements, add your bed frame, and leave space for everyday life around it.

01 / THE MEASUREMENTS

Canadian mattress size chart

Common mattress dimensions in Canada are Twin: 38 × 75 inches; Double: 54 × 75 inches; Queen: 60 × 80 inches; and King: 76 × 80 inches. Width comes first, followed by length.

These are reference measurements for the mattress itself. A frame can make the bed wider and longer, and individual mattress specifications may differ slightly.

Mattress dimensions, width × length
Mattress size Inches Centimetres
Twin / Single 38 × 75 96.5 × 190.5
Double / Full 54 × 75 137.2 × 190.5
Queen 60 × 80 152.4 × 203.2
King 76 × 80 193.0 × 203.2

Centimetres are converted from inches and rounded to one decimal place. Check the measurements and tolerance on your chosen product page before ordering.

02 / SIDE BY SIDE

See where the extra space goes

The drawings below use the same scale. Twin and Double share a length; Queen and King add another 5 inches from head to foot.

38 in75 in long

Twin / Single

38 × 75 in

A compact choice for one sleeper. Leave room for a desk, drawers or a bedside table.

Shop Twin mattresses
54 in75 in long

Double / Full

54 × 75 in

More width for one person without adding length. Check the space at the foot of the bed.

Shop Double mattresses
60 in80 in long

Queen

60 × 80 in

Extra length and a little more width than a Double. A useful starting point for two sleepers.

Shop Queen mattresses
76 in80 in long

King

76 × 80 in

The same length as a Queen, with 16 extra inches across. Measure both bedside walkways.

Shop King mattresses

Double or Queen?

6 in wider + 5 in longer

A Queen adds width and legroom. In a small bedroom, those extra inches may also bring the foot of the bed closer to a dresser. Mark out both sizes before deciding.

Queen or King?

16 in wider same length

A King adds 8 inches per person when shared equally. That is a noticeable change in sleeping space, but it also takes 8 inches from each side of a centred bed.

03 / BEFORE YOU ORDER

Measure the room you actually use

A mattress can fit inside a bedroom and still leave the room awkward to live in. Open the wardrobe, pull out the drawers and walk the route from the door to the bed.

Example Queen mattress in a 10 by 10 foot room A 60 by 80 inch mattress centred across a 120 by 120 inch room leaves 30 inches on each side and 40 inches at the foot before adding the bed frame or furniture. This is a measurement example, not a furnished room layout.10 ft / 120 in10 ft / 120 inQueen60 × 80 in30 in30 in40 inMattress footprint only • No frame or furniture
Worked example: a Queen mattress in a 10 × 10 ft room. A frame and furniture reduce the clear space shown. Doors, wardrobes and access needs must be checked separately.
  1. Measure the available floor space. Note skirting boards, radiators, floor vents and anything that cannot move.
  2. Mark out the full bed. Use the frame’s outside dimensions, including the headboard and footboard. Painter’s tape makes the outline easy to test.
  3. Leave a usable walkway. Around 24–30 inches is a practical starting point on the sides you use and at the foot. Allow more for access needs and furniture.
  4. Try the room with everything open. Check wardrobe doors, bedside drawers and the bedroom door before choosing the larger size.

Check the route in, too

A boxed mattress and a rigid bed base are different delivery problems. Measure narrow doors, stair turns and lift openings. Check the packaging and delivery format for your selected product; do not assume a frame or foundation will fit because the mattress arrives rolled or boxed.

04 / NAMES THAT CAN BE CONFUSING

Twin XL, California King and split King

These names describe different dimensions or bed arrangements. They are included for comparison, not as a promise that every size is available in the UltraFlex range.

Other common sizes and arrangements, width × length
Size or setup Inches Centimetres
Twin XL 38 × 80 96.5 × 203.2
California King 72 × 84 182.9 × 213.4
Split King
Two Twin XLs together
76 × 80 overall 193.0 × 203.2 overall

Same name, different details

Single usually means Twin, and Full usually means Double. If a frame or mattress lists a slightly different measurement, use the actual specification to check the fit. RV and specialty beds need particular care: the name alone is not enough.

Thickness is a separate measurement

A Queen mattress can come in several heights without changing its size category. Add the mattress height to the base and frame height, then check fitted-sheet pocket depth. For bunk and loft beds, follow the bed maker’s size and maximum-thickness instructions.

05 / A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Mattress size FAQs

What size is a Queen mattress in Canada?

A standard Queen mattress is 60 inches wide and 80 inches long, or 152.4 × 203.2 cm. These are mattress dimensions; a bed frame, headboard or footboard can extend beyond them.

Are Double and Full the same mattress size?

Yes. Double and Full are common names for the same size. The reference dimensions in this guide are 54 × 75 inches (137.2 × 190.5 cm). Check the exact product measurements before matching a mattress to an existing frame.

Are Twin and Single the same size?

Yes. Twin and Single usually mean the same size in Canada: 38 × 75 inches (96.5 × 190.5 cm). Twin XL is different: it is usually 38 × 80 inches, adding 5 inches of length.

How much bigger is a Queen than a Double?

A Queen is 6 inches wider and 5 inches longer than a standard Double. Shared evenly between two sleepers, that adds 3 inches of width per person. The longer footprint also takes more room at the foot of the bed.

How much wider is a King than a Queen?

A standard King is 16 inches wider than a Queen. Both are 80 inches long. For two sleepers, a King provides 38 inches of width per person when divided equally; a Queen provides 30 inches.

Do two Twin mattresses make a King?

Two standard Twins placed together measure about 76 × 75 inches, which is 5 inches shorter than a standard King. Two Twin XL mattresses measure about 76 × 80 inches together, the usual footprint of a split King. The mattresses remain separate, with a seam between them.

Will a Queen mattress fit on a Double bed frame?

A frame designed only for a Double mattress is too small for a Queen. A Queen is both wider and longer. Use a frame specifically rated for the mattress size and follow its support instructions.

Is California King bigger than King?

A California King is longer but narrower: 72 × 84 inches versus 76 × 80 inches for a standard King. They need different fitted sheets and compatible frames. California King is included here for comparison; check individual UltraFlex product pages for available sizes.

How much space should I leave around my bed?

As a starting point, plan roughly 24–30 inches of clear walking space along the sides you use and at the foot of the bed. This is general planning guidance, not an accessibility standard or a guaranteed fit. Allow more room for drawers, doors and anyone who needs easier access.

Does mattress thickness change the size?

Thickness is the height of the mattress, separate from its width and length. Check the selected model and thickness, the total height of your bed and the pocket depth of fitted sheets or a protector. For a bunk or loft bed, follow the bed manufacturer’s mattress-size and maximum-thickness limits.

Which sizes can I buy from UltraFlex?

UltraFlex offers Twin, Double, Queen and King mattresses across its range. Size and thickness options vary by model. Choose the available option on the individual product page and check its measurements before ordering.

How should I measure a mattress after unboxing?

Let the mattress expand according to the instructions supplied with it, then measure it flat on a suitable base. Measure straight across the widest part and from head to foot without compressing the edges. Check the product’s stated measurement tolerance; many UltraFlex listings allow a variation of up to half an inch.
